Venky calling

My cousin Prit had come to India from Germany, and he wanted to make a short trip to Tirupati to visit the Venkateshwara temple there. Since he didn’t have any company, and I was jobless anyway, I decided to join him.

It was like divine intervention that a trip to Tirupati materialised out of nowhere – almost as a precursor to my mega journey. We booked ourselves on a 24 hour package tour that would take us from Bangalore on the evening of the 18th and bring us back to Bangalore on the evening of the 19th.

The tour bus and the overall service was less than satisfactory, but the darshan itself was something else. I am far from being the religious sorts, but I simply couldn’t take my eyes off the black stone idol for the brief 10 seconds at the end of the long 4 hour wait in queue. Somehow, the long wait seemed to be worth it.
